MXIA X Monogram 9ct Earring
The gold in the MXIA - X earring comes from a Fairtrade certified mine in Peru. The earring is a 10mm cross that is also the MXIA monogram. The earring is 9ct solid gold, hallmarked 375, Fairtrade certified and stamped with the Fairtrade logo. The X earring is sold separately, because I like to mix things up and seldom wear matching earrings. If you want a pair, then choose two items (the price EUR 118 is for one earring).
At this time, it is not possible to stamp our products with the fairtrade stamp in Iceland, but we’re working on legalities with the municipalities and government to make this possible in the future. Fairtrade gold means that the miners co-op has received the London Bullion price for the gold as well as a 5% premium for social development.
On treasure maps, the location of the hidden goods are typically marked with an X. That is why the ligature for MXIA Reykjavík is an X, emphasising the importance of traceability and transparency.
If you want solid gold jewellery, why not choose fully traceable gold because it really does make a difference for the miners and the environment (currently, Fairtrade gold is the only certification for traceability in gold). We believe that a natural resource like gold should fund the miners and the mining community (schools, workshops, wi-fi, sport facilities, etc.).

I recently spoke to Alan Frampton, the owner of Cred Jewellery in London. He just came back from a trip to Peru where he visited the miners that have mined the gold in this item. He has seen and experienced the wonderful social development happening there, and it’s all because we are able to supply and sell Fairtrade gold. “I ask myself daily, what have we done for the miners today?” said Alan at the end of our conversation.
